Description
ENGLISH, FRENCH, GERMAN, ITALIAN. CIVIL ENGINEERING, ARCHITECTURE, HYDRAULICS
The influence of constant progress in the fields of science and technology. the ever increasing importance of international trade and the need to perfect the means of furthering peaceful cooperation between nations, have caused the evolution of new forms of expression and creation of a new terminology which tends to replace and modify more traditional usages.
This specialised technical dictionary has been conceived with the intention of providing Civil Engineers, Architects, Scholars, Translators, Universities and Research Laboratories with a completely up-to-date work in the field of Civil Engineering.
It is the result of a close study of seventy dictionaries and glossaries, of reports of many congresses concerned with building and civil engineering, and exhaustive examination of catalogues and literature from the major construction companies in the world.
Neologisms, idioms and expressions from everyday language have been included which are seldom found in other dictionaries, but form part of the professional “jargon” as used throughout the world.
The more than 20.000 technical terms in each language (a total of over 80.000 expressions) are listed in alphabetical order in English. At the end there is an index designed for quick reference in each of the other languages.
We sincerely hope that this dictionary will help to overcome language barriers between the scholars and technicians in different countries, by providing a more efficient means of communication for the understanding of their everyday problems.
In the laborious compilation and revision of this work, the author would particularly like to express his appreciation to the eightyfive engineers and translators in the various countries for their generous collaboration.
