Description
Foreword
Since the publication of the first edition of our English-French Dictionary, we received a great many requests about the French-English counterpart of the work.
Science, in our times, is growing at a fabulous rate . French technical publicationsare developing more and more, and the need for a good specialized Dictionary seems to become essential.
The comprehensiveness of the Editor permitted us to fulfil the task so involved, and the author is pleased to underline this point.
English-speaking readers will find this book the more exact translations of French technical literature they’re looking for. In each case, the standardized termsare given. Besides, this is but a technical Dictionary, and it happens that, for a given word, several meanings are given; in such a case, the reader will naturallyselect the keyword, and subsequently the appropriate translation. A good example is the French word << arracher >>, which, in France, has no direction meaning, but to which we give in English the normal translation of to tear away, down, off, out, or up.
The new Dictionary contains up to 10 000 translations. The author hopes this compilation will be useful to many of his English-speaking readers, and would not miss to thank the Editor for the tactful and efficient realization of the finished work.
