Description

Foreword

In presenting this Dictionary to the english-speaking readers, the author hopes to help them to solve successfully some irritating problems.

Good technical dictionaries are somewhat scarce in France, especially when they are bilingual. In fact, the work, of an author is tremendous. The book must not only be as complete as possible, but really up to date. These conditions are seldom met with on this side of the Channel, though very good books were edited since the war.

The present edition numbers over 20 000 words or expressions. It is devoted to the electrical engineering, and to the parent techniques such as electronics, radio, television, acoustics, optics, lighting, cinema, telegraphy,  telephony, nucleonics, data processing, etc. One will find in it not only the correct translation of each word, but very often the idiomatic or slang expression which is often incomprehensible to the foreigner.

The author has taken care to give as far as possiblethe standardized names. On the French side, the standards are those of the Comité Electrotechnique Français, and in the English Language, those of the American Standards Association, of the American Institute of Radio Engineers, and of the British Standards Institution.

The last pages are reserved to several practical conversion tables between american, English and metric measures.

The author wishes to acknowledge the assistance of his wife in the compilationof the finished work. He is also greatly indebted to the Editor and his staff for the excellent presentation of his work.
