Multilingual dictionary of concrete: A compilation of terms in English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Russian
“International Exchanges of thoughts and ideas are too often hampered by language problems in all disciplines. This is especially true in the building profession ans in the world of concrete construction. To combat the problem, a dictionary comprising a list of concrete terms in Dutch and English was originally prepared by a small group of engineers from the Netherlands for FIP.
From this initiative within the Dutch member-group Stuvo, cooperation was subsequently obtained from other FIP national groups in france, the Federal Republic of Germany, U.S.S.R., Spain, Great Britain and the United States of America for its completion.
In scope, it covers reinforced concrete as well as prestressed concrete terms since they are so often used together. A basic list of some 1500 words was compiled including, as far as possible, items which are new in the field of concrete construction.
This work will serve as an invaluable reference source for all who are engaged in the construction industry, in architecture and allied fields or activities and who need to communicate in other languages.”
