The Machine Tool: An Interlingual Dictionary of Basic Concepts comprising An alphabetical dictionary and a classified vocabulary with definitions and illustrations
Prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, Economic Commission for Europe
This project of an interlingual dictionary of machine tool terms was initiated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) on the recommendation of a Working Party of Experts of its Industry and Materials Committee, following a proposal put forward by the Delegation of the United States of America in October 1950. The work was then encouraged by the ECE throughout, in the belief that it would assist international trade in the field of machine tools and their component parts, and prove of practical value to the industry and in the various public services.
The preparation of the definitions and illustrations, and the compilation of the Dictionary as a whole, has been carried out under the auspices of the ECE, and in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Publication of the completed work, however, has been undertaken on a normal commercial basis.
